Colchester has a terrific past and a great future and our regular tour of Colchester – from Camulodunum  to Colchester - has received a make over to reflect the rapid, exciting and sometimes controversial changes occurring in our great town

you will see  firstsite, the recently opened arts venue,  the 10th Century St Botolph’s Priory ruins, and narrow shopping lanes which follow the street lines of the original Roman Town, jostling with smart up to date shopping centres. Colchester is stuffed  with medieval churches, houses of all periods and the best preserved Roman gateway in Britain. You will view  the outstanding 1902 Town Hall, the historic Dutch Quarter,  one of the top award winning parks in Britain – Castle Park – dominated by Colchester Castle Keep the largest in Northern Europe. Built on top of the foundations of the Temple of Claudius  it is now one of Colchester’s museums. (A visit  and a guided tour is a must)  It is here that the tour ends opposite the Visitor Information Centre where you booked your tickets.

March – June: Saturdays 11.00 am       Bank Holiday Mondays 2.00pm (No tour 7th May)      July - August: Monday - Saturday 11.00 am, Sunday 2.00pm     September Saturdays only 11.00 am (No tour 8th Sept)

October: Saturdays only 11.00 am

The tour lasts about one and half hours.  Adults £3.50, Children (aged 5-15) £2.50

As you walk the pretty streets of Dedham with your guide , you will discover more about the ancient buildings, the magnificent church and the famous people of the village including artists John Constable and Sir Alfred Munnings

Starting at Dedham Car Park at 2.00 pm, the tours last about one and a half hours with a walking distance of about 2.5 miles – mainly on pavements.

The tours run on the following afternoons:

Wednesday 9th May; Saturday 26th May; Saturday 23rd June; Wednesday 11th July; Saturday 28th July, Saturday 11th August; Wednesday 22nd August; Saturday 15th September

Adults £4.00; Children (5-16)£2.00 Family Ticket (2 Adults+ 2 Children)

No need to book- just turn up at Dedham Car Park for the 2.00pm start- and have a very enjoyable afternoon

An honour for Dick, Colchester and the CTGA

Dick Barton, vice chairman of CTGA, was recently nominated for the Outstanding Customer Service Award at the Essex Tourism Awards 2011 ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel at Stansted. Dick, against stiff competition came first, the award recognising his terrific  work as a tour Guide in Colchester.
